WORK EXPERIENCE

January 2007 to Present - Technologist - Media Group, Saskatoon, SK.

  • Build, maintain, and operate an SD Fly Pack 3 camera mobile production facility for location TV production
  • Programmed software to generate on-screen clock and score graphics for live TV sports productions
  • Design, build, and install Parallax Propeller based controllers for museum installations.  The custom controllers use RS232, DMX, and dry contacts connected to lighting controllers, video players and projectors, motion detectors, and pushbuttons to provide immersive multimedia experiences.
  • Maintain a variety of physical and virtual servers -- both Windows and Linux
  • Maintain a network of approximately 50 devices (Includes servers, workstations, VM hosts, storage, printers, wireless access points, and specialized video production devices)
  • Programmed and maintain custom software to manage the Saskatchewan Ministry of Education's Educational Video Duplication Service.  This software includes an online "shopping cart" system, complete record management and report generation, as well as fully automated manufacturing of custom DVD orders and semi-automated production of VHS tape orders.

1995 to Present - Self employed as Walde Technology, Saskatoon, SK.

  • Design and installation of networks, firewalls and servers

1996 to June 2006 - Computer Technologist - Davidson School Division, SK.

  • Built and maintained a wide area network eventually consisting of six sites with 12 Linux servers and about 200 Windows workstations
  • Did presentations on technology at teachers' inservices
  • Occasionally taught classes on photo and video editing

January 1995 to October 1999 - Service Manager/Network Administrator C:\ Prompt Computer Systems Inc./ Media Group, Saskatoon, SK.

  • Trained and supervised service technicians in a service-oriented retail computer store. Built and repaired computers for customers and for internal use.
  • Built and maintained a network consisting of Linux/SAMBA file servers, a Linux internet firewall, and approximately 30 stations consisting of DOS/Windows for Workgroups, Windows 95/98, Windows NT, Macintosh, and Linux machines. This network served C:\ Prompt (a computer store), Media Group (a video post-production facility), H.T.Media Ltd. (a new media company), Downstream Pictures (a TV/Film production company), eClipse Video Technologies (makers of broadcast-quality video editing computers), and Start Productions (a TV/Film producer.)
  • Set up Linux-based internet firewall/proxy servers for several customers.
  • Maintained an AT&T Merlin Legend phone system (10 lines, 30 extensions)

April 1990 to January 1992 - Salesperson/Computer Marketing Specialist - Tandy Business Products/Radio Shack, Saskatoon, SK

  • Selling and supporting computer systems and consumer electronics.
